Accelerating Change at Evolt Charging
International Women’s Day (IWD) is more than just a date on the calendar—it’s a powerful reminder of the progress we’ve made and the work that still lies ahead in achieving true gender equality. This year, as we honour the achievements of women in the electric vehicle (EV) industry, we recognise the crucial role that representation, support, and action play in shaping the future. At Evolt Charging, we are not only celebrating the incredible contributions of women in EV but also accelerating action to create a more inclusive and diverse industry.
Why Days Like International Women’s Day Matter
IWD is an opportunity to spotlight the accomplishments of women who are leading innovation, breaking barriers, and driving sustainable change. The EV industry, historically male-dominated, is evolving, with more women stepping into leadership roles, engineering breakthroughs, and policy-making positions. However, challenges remain, including gender disparities in STEM education, workplace biases, and limited female representation in technical roles.
By recognising and celebrating women in EV, we inspire the next generation of female leaders and create an environment where women and girls feel encouraged to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Visibility matters, and showcasing successful women in the industry helps dismantle stereotypes and prove that the EV sector is for everyone.
Barbara Wilson, New Business Development Manager – “International Woman’s Day is important as it reminds us of the importance of gender equality & how this is a relatively new and hard fought concept. It resonates with me personally as it always reminds me of my late Mum. Making the controversial decision in the 1970’s to leave behind the UK & her family, she lived the rest of her life chasing her American dream. She fought hard to prove that her gender was never going to be a barrier to her success. Teaching me, by her example, that no matter how hard something first appeared, through hard work and maintaining integrity, that my goals were never out of my reach. Professionally, I am proud to work for an organisation that actively promotes woman’s leadership & it was one of the many reasons that I joined Evolt Charging. I am inspired by many of the women & men that I work with currently. Achieving gender equality takes all of us & with a field of work close to STEM disciplines, it is slowly evolving. Whether it’s calling out bias, advocating for equal opportunities, or just being a supportive teammate, we’re stronger together. Being the Mum of two teenage daughters, the work our colleagues do today sets an example for future generations of young women who might be interested in this industry. That being said, I have never felt more supported as a woman in business and am inspired daily by Lara Navetta. Her unwavering dedication to leading our team with drive, support, and a great sense of humour motivates me to strive for the same level of success.”

Atika Augustin, Head of Logisitics – “Days like this are important as they raise awareness and recognition for the incredible women working in and supporting the EV industry. In such a male-dominated field, this day serves as a reminder to celebrate and highlight the contributions of the women driving progress within the industry. Professionally, I love celebrating the achievements of others, especially women. Their success serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration, reminding us all that greatness is within reach. I am fortunate to work in a company where I am supported by both male and female colleagues. I am especially inspired and supported by incredible women such as Anne Buckingham, Kerri Baker, and Sarah Richardson.”

Encouraging Women and Girls to Join the EV Industry
The transition to a sustainable future requires diverse perspectives, and attracting more women into the EV space is crucial for driving innovation. Encouraging young girls to explore STEM fields, mentoring aspiring female professionals, and fostering inclusive workplaces are just some of the ways we can make a difference.
At Evolt Charging, we are committed to:
- Promoting STEM education through partnerships with schools and universities, offering mentorship and internship programmes that empower young women.
- Creating inclusive hiring practices to ensure equal opportunities for women in engineering, technology, and leadership roles.
- Supporting career growth by providing women with access to training, leadership programmes, and networking opportunities within the EV industry.
How Evolt Charging is Accelerating Action
As a company dedicated to driving sustainable mobility, we recognise that diversity and inclusion fuel innovation. That’s why Evolt Charging is actively working to break barriers and create an environment where women thrive. We celebrate the achievements of female leaders in EV and are committed to amplifying their voices.
We have asked our employees, why celebrations such as IWD are important to highlight:
Michael Macleod, our Partner Sales Manager – “I believe days like International Women’s Day are crucial because they highlight the importance of women across various sectors. There’s still much work to be done to encourage women and girls into roles that have historically been male-dominated, such as science, technology, engineering, and mechanics. Personally, it’s about recognising the contributions of women in the EV sector. This segment has done well to avoid the typical approach seen in automotive and technology-based organisations. I see many women in varied roles, from frontline support to managing director, and everything in between. However, it also highlights that there’s still work to be done. In terms of the women in the company who have inspired or supported me, there are too many to name. Specifically, our marketing team consistently provides detailed information. Our network and driver support teams, particularly the administrative team, including Amanda Dowie, Chloe Mitchell, and Gina Wandsworth, have handled numerous customer complaints and continue to engage with drivers and hosts. Additionally, there are many unsung heroes within the business who manage day-to-day challenges across the UK. Sarah Richardson, for example, always approaches challenges with a positive attitude. Adela, our contracts manager, works tirelessly to bring in contract revenue and ensure that ongoing O&M packages are sold and challenges are resolved promptly.”

Looking Ahead
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we recognise that change doesn’t happen overnight. It requires sustained effort, collaboration, and commitment. At Evolt Charging, we are dedicated to making the EV industry an inclusive space where women can thrive, innovate, and lead.
Together, we can accelerate change and power a diverse, sustainable, and inclusive EV industry.
Mark Rayner, Business Development Manager – “As a male in the UK EV industry, I believe days like Top Women in EV Week and International Women’s Day are crucial for highlighting and celebrating women’s achievements. they raise visibility and inspire others, especially me, showing that women can excel in industries like EVs, which have historically been male-dominated. Representation is key, as it encourages future generations to pursue careers in STEM which I hope my daughter will succeed in. Additionally, diversity fosters innovation, bringing fresh perspectives and ideas to the table, which is vital in an industry driven by change. These days are here to remind me and others to support inclusion and equality and recognise the value women bring to the EV sector. I take great aspiration from those I work with, like Gemma, Rachael, Barbara, Kelly, Suzannah, Ailean, Abbi and Lara, and continue to strive to be a better-rounded team member in both my personal and professional growth.”
Mark Rayner
Gemma Hoff, Key Account Manager – “Days like this are crucial in recognising how far women have come in the fight for gender equality and the incredible contributions they’ve made, not just in the EV industry, but across traditionally male-dominated sectors. By celebrating these achievements, we amplify real-life stories and experiences that inspire more women to step into leadership roles, challenge gender inequalities, and pursue their ambitions with confidence. These days serve as a powerful reminder that progress is happening and that there is still work to be done to create truly inclusive workplaces.
Personally – I want my daughter to grow up in a world where opportunities aren’t limited by gender. No matter the industry or role, I want her to know that if she aspires to achieve something, she absolutely can. Celebrating days like this paves the way for the next generation of women, giving them the confidence to lead and continue driving progress in gender equality.
Professionally – Having worked in male-dominated industries since I began my career in 2017, I’ve seen first hand how much has changed in a relatively short time. Women in senior and leadership roles are now taken more seriously, and there is greater flexibility in the workplace, whether it’s remote working, parental leave, or career development opportunities. While there’s still more work to do, the progress we’ve made is worth celebrating. Coming together to share experiences and support one another strengthens our collective success, and I believe things will continue to improve.
I’m inspired by all the women in this company. We have built a culture of support, mentorship, and shared goals, where we encourage and uplift one another. We come from different backgrounds and have different roles, yet we work together seamlessly, driving success as a team. That sense of collective empowerment is something truly worth celebrating.”
