Dundee City Council becomes first Scottish council to officially migrate
First Scottish council to officially migrate away from ChargePlace Scotland network
Dundee City Council, in partnership with Evolt Charging, has completed the migration of its entire public and fleet electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure away from the ChargePlace Scotland (CPS) network – becoming the first local authority in Scotland to officially complete the transition.
The migration of more than 190 public and fleet EV charging points across the city to the Evolt network, including Dundee’s four rapid charging hubs, was completed by Evolt’s local teams in just two and a half weeks.
Thanks to careful planning, clear communication and a phased approach, each individual charger required only 30-60 minutes downtime, ensuring minimal disruption for drivers.
First step
The transition is the first step in the new long-term contract, in which Evolt will be responsible for managing, operating and maintaining Dundee’s public and fleet EV infrastructure over the next 20 years.
Evolt Charging has worked in close partnership with Dundee City Council for almost 15 years on multiple projects, from its first EV charging location in 2011, to the UK’s first purpose-built EV charging hub at Princes Street in 2018, through to Dundee’s ground breaking charging hub at Clepington Road, featuring technologies such as a ‘second life’ battery system and world-first rainwater harvesting technology.
Justin Meyer, Managing Director of SWARCO Smart Charging says that Evolt’s longstanding partnership and collaborative working relationship has helped ensure a smooth transition: “Over the last 15 years we have built a close, trusted relationship with the city of Dundee and its Council.
“Having invested significantly, with more than 50 employees based in the city, we have built an expert and local team that has a deep knowledge of Dundee’s EV Infrastructure. This, combined with our experience in managing the CPS network over the last four years, provided us a unique advantage in this transition. Our teams know the existing system inside and out, which enabled a rapid, responsive migration process with minimal disruption to drivers which is our most important metric.”
A key advantage for Dundee’s EV drivers is continued access to CPS network cards while CPS remains live: “Our agreement provides continuity for drivers, who can still use their CPS cards as long as the network remains open,” Justin continues.

Cllr Siobhan Tolland, Depute Convener of City Growth and Infrastructure at Dundee City Council, says: “We’re extremely proud that Dundee continues to lead by example in delivering sustainable transport and mobility solutions. This seamless migration highlights the strength of our longstanding partnership with Evolt Charging and our continued focus on delivering real economic benefits – including retaining jobs locally – alongside ensuring the sustained growth and reliability of Dundee’s EV charging infrastructure.”

Fully committed
Following the completion of the migration process, Dundee City Council and Evolt will continue to work on new initiatives and driver-first projects that further enhance and bolster EV infrastructure across the city.
“Evolt are in a unique position to support organisations in Scotland transition away from CPS and we are fully committed to making that migration as smooth and seamless as possible for all, as well as maintaining our commitment to the further development and delivery of leading EV charging infrastructure across the country,” Justin concludes.
