Tewkesbury charges ahead with launch of new EV infrastructure
Eight new charge points unveiled at Spring Gardens Car Park as the borough leads the way in clean transport.
Tewkesbury, 4 June 2025 — Accessible, reliable and future-ready
The launch, held on Tuesday 4 June to coincide with the town’s busy market day, was supported by Evolt, part of SWARCO Smart Charging, a company with over 14 years’ experience in public charge point provision. Evolt’s expert team supported by Council representatives, attended the event to engage with residents and visitors, offer live demonstrations and answer questions about the new charging technology.

Accessible, reliable and future-ready
The new 7kW fast AC chargers are designed to serve two bays simultaneously, with eight bays now available for use. All bays have been installed with accessibility in mind—featuring lowered sockets and compliant layouts to meet the latest Public Charge Point Regulations.
Each charger is backed by Evolt’s comprehensive software and maintenance packages, ensuring real-time monitoring, remote diagnostics and rapid response support. In addition, 24/7 customer assistance is available to all users.
Easy, flexible charging payment options
EV drivers can initiate a charge using the Evolt Network App, RFID card, or online via WebPay using a QR code on the charge point. The system also supports a wide range of roaming partners—including AllStar, Octopus Electroverse, Paua, and Zap-Pay—offering drivers flexibility in how they pay. Charging costs 50p per kWh with a 30p connection fee, plus standard parking charges*
Looking to the future
Councillor Cate Cody, Lead Member for Climate and Ecology, welcomed the installation as a “vital step forward” for the borough. “People can now plug in, go for a coffee, explore our markets, visit the Abbey or enjoy riverside walks knowing their vehicle is charging nearby,” she said.
The project was partially funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund and forms part of a wider council initiative to reduce emissions, improve air quality, and expand EV infrastructure across the borough.
Tewkesbury is charging ahead—embracing a cleaner, greener future of transport.
