Free community event in Cornwall

Taking Charge Together – Evolt Charging to host free community event in partnership with Cornwall Council to promote uptake of electric vehicles (EVs)

Evolt Charging, part of SWARCO Smart Charging, the UK’s leading electric vehicle (EV) charging business, is hosting a free one-day community experience event in partnership with Cornwall Council to promote the benefits of electric vehicles (EVs).

Taking Charge Together, which will take place on Saturday 13 September between 10am and 4pm at the Royal Cornwall Events Showground in Wadebridge, will provide an opportunity for local residents and visitors to learn more about the benefits of EVs, as well as the Council’s plans to further increase public charging infrastructure across the county.

Free EV test drives

The event will feature a dedicated test drive zone, giving attendees the chance to experience a wide variety of EV cars and vans, around a test track. Attendees will also hear from industry experts on making the switch to an electric future, the latest EV charging technology and Cornwall Council’s expansion plans for the public charging network, which currently includes more than 815 chargers across the county. The event will also provide a dedicated space for local businesses to exhibit and highlight their services.

Danielle Cort, Marketing Director at SWARCO Smart Charging says Taking Charge Together is all about exploring, experiencing and embracing the benefits of sustainable transport: “Our passion for all things EVs runs deep, and we’re excited to be teaming up with Cornwall Council, who we have worked in close partnership with since 2022, for this community event. Showcasing the growing charging network in more rural parts of the country is vital – it helps to break down barriers, encourage more drivers to make the switch, and ultimately drive the big change in behaviour we need to create a more sustainable future. By making the EV journey more visible, accessible and exciting, we can give everyone across the region the confidence to join the transition.”

Cllr Dan Rogerson, Cornwall’s portfolio holder for transport, said: “As the 2030 ban on the sale of new diesel and petrol cars draws nearer, it’s important we support our residents to make the switch to electric vehicles and help cut carbon emissions.

“Residents can find out about the council’s charging network and plans to expand it. You can also tell us where you would like to see new charge points.”
